New poem: Infinite Understanding

By Richard Mather

What fact makes a principle true?

Quid Facti. That is the question.

Searching for material truth

& reaching for the analytic,

we must ask, we must probe.

Although dim & confused,

our minds contain all potencies.

Seek not the dark side of an idea

but strive for total understanding

beyond space and time: these are

the imagination’s limits. Think.

Hope for luminous deification

& all things revealed to us

in a glance, instant & panoramic.

Matter dissolves & perceptions

resolve into ideas with no object

to speak of. Now see the infinite

emerging clear & distinct. Isn’t it

a form of thought almost god-like?
