What the Mirror Said

I am the image and you are the body.

In the mirror we appear complete;

We are whole: two as one.

For a few moments I am riveted

To your body and you are stuck with me.

But when you go away,

I am left without a trace, without a face,

Without a form.  I am deposed.

I do not know how to create life

From within my own.

I am only a passing dream of yourself.

I have only your absence

and the furniture  in the room

to reflect on. Without you

I am in the company of nothing.
